Genesis, Salgado's major photography exhibition lands in Ancona

Genesis, Sebastião Salgado's major photography exhibition arrives Sept. 29, 2018 through Jan. 6, 2019 at the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona.

After enchanting audiences in Naples and at the Reggia di Venaria, the major photography exhibition"Genesis" by Sebastião Salgado (Aimorés, 1944) lands from Sept. 29, 2018 to Jan. 6, 2019 at the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona.

245 spectacular black-and-whiteimages depicting the rare beauty of our planet will be on view in an exhibition curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado on a project by Amazonas Images and Contrasto.

The exhibition is a love song for the Earth and aims to convey the need to safeguard our planet, to respect nature in order to preserve its future.

Divided into five sections: The Planet South, The Sanctuaries of Nature, Africa, The Great North, Amazonia and Pantanàl, the exhibition will show visitors extraordinary landscapes, animals, including giant tortoises from the Galapagos, iguanas, sea lions, zebras and wildlife from Kenya and Tanzania, and indigenous peoples from Amazonia, Congo, the Kalahari Desert, the Namibian desert and the forests of New Guinea.

“Genesis” is a search for the world of origins, how it took shape, evolved, and existed for millennia before modern life sped up its pace and began to move us away from the essence of our nature. It is a journey through land and seascapes, discovering peoples and animals that have escaped the embrace of the contemporary world. Evidence that our planet still includes vast remote regions, where nature reigns in the silence of its pristine magnificence; authentic wonders in the Poles, tropical rainforests, the vastness of savannas and scorching deserts, among glacier-covered mountains and lonely islands. Regions too cold or arid for anything but the most resilient life forms, areas that are home to animal species and ancient tribes whose very survival relies on isolation. Photographs, those of Genesis, aspire to reveal such enchantment; a visual tribute to a fragile planet that we all have a duty to protect," said Lélia Wanick Salgado.
