Genoa, Superbarocco Project kicks off. Two exhibitions in dialogue with the event at the Scuderie del Quirinale

From March 27 to July 10, 2022 in Genoa two exhibitions: at Palazzo Ducale 'The Shape of Wonder' and throughout the city 'The Protagonists of the Baroque in Genoa.' The city is thus participating in the Scuderie del Quirinale's exhibition-event dedicated to the... Superbaroque

The city of Genoa is preparing to celebrate one of the most splendid periods in its history, when between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the Republic reached the height of its power and experienced a moment of singular vivacity, not only as an economic and financial power, but also as a cultural and artistic capital. It will do so with two exhibitions curated by Piero Boccardo, Jonathan Bober and Franco Boggero: The Shape of Wonder, at the Palazzo Ducale, and the series of exhibitions spread throughout the city I Protagonists of the Baroque in Genoa. The two events are included in the Superbarocco Project, in conjunction with the exhibition-event at the Scuderie del Quirinale, Rome, entitled Superbarocco. Art in Genoa from Rubens to Magnasco, promoted with the National Gallery of Art, Washington, with the special collaboration of the Museums of Genoa.

The Shape of Wonder - Masterpieces in Genoa between 1600 and 1750 tells of the exceptional moment when Genoa was enriched with works of astonishing quality, created by famous foreign artists such as Rubens, Van Dyck and Puget, and by brilliant local talents such as Bernardo Strozzi, Valerio Castello, and Gregorio De Ferrari. The exhibition The Protagonists of the Baroque in Genoa is ideally connected to the Roman exhibition and La Forma della Meraviglia to celebrate this extraordinary artistic season precisely through its protagonists, artists of fame and success, capable of marvelous achievements in painting, sculpture, in the enthralling large dimension of fresco and in the small, precious dimension of drawing, fabric, and majolica. The review links the main museums and places of the Genoese Baroque, each of which devotes an in-depth study to a specific artist or theme, from Gregorio De Ferrari to Filippo Parodi, from textiles to majolica.
