In Rome, a tribute exhibition celebrates Hidetoshi Nagasawa

At La Nuova Pesa Gallery in Rome, from October 4 to November 30, 2018, the exhibition 'Friendship without Gravity' pays homage to the great Hidetoshi Nagasawa.

La Nuova Pesa Gallery in Rome opens on Thursday, Oct. 4, an exhibition-tribute to Hidetoshi Nagasawa (Tonei, 1940 - Ponderano, 2018), the Japanese but adopted Italian artist who recently passed away. The exhibition is titled Friendship without Gravity, will run until November 30, 2018, and intends, in Simona Marchini’s own words, “to celebrate a subtle and profound encounter between two people” that began more than a decade ago, precisely in 2005, the year Simona Marchini invited the then very young art critic Giacomo Zaza to curate the double solo show Araki - Nagasawa.

Other collaborations followed, such as the exhibition Ombra d’Angelo at the Monastero delle Lucrezie as part of the 2007 Todi Arte Festival, up to the most recent, last year, on the occasion of the exhibition Trame d’autore at theAuditorium in Rome as part of the 12th edition of the Festa del Cinema. The title of the exhibition, Friendship Without Gravity, is intended to allude both to the specificity of Nagasawa’s work, whose suspension and weightlessness seem to defy the physical law of gravity, and to what should be the condition of friendship: non-obedience to the mechanics and dynamics of heaviness, thus gravity, in relationship. On the occasion, the large 2005 installation Struttura di odore (Structure of Smell ) and, courtesy of Andrea Alibrandi, Galleria Il Ponte, Florence, the sculpture Vecchio pino (Old Pine Tree), 1985, previously presented in 2017 on the occasion of the exhibition Trame d’autore (Wefts of Author), will be shown again.
The critical text of the exhibition is by Giacomo Zaza. For all information you can visit the official website of La Nuova Pesa.
