In Salò an exhibition with the protagonists of the twentieth century, from Savinio to Lucio Fontana

At MuSa, Museo di Salò, the exhibition "Italianissima. Art in Italy between the two wars, " a project by Contemplazioni (curated by Giovanni Lettini, Stefano Morelli and Sara Pallavicini) created in collaboration with the Museo Novecento in Florence. The protagonist of the exhibition is Italian art of the 20th century, featuring works such as Lucio Fontana’s famous Concetti Spaziali, an Achrome among the largest ever made by Piero Manzoni, and an intriguing drawing by Alberto Savinio.

The exhibition is divided into eight sections: “Ora et labora” where the relationship between work and prayer is addressed ; “The Holy Face,” the section devoted to portraits and the new aesthetic ; “Lost Paradises” to recall the role of the Italian landscape in the lives andsoul of us all ; “Sacred Rites” in which ritual practice relates the sacredness of common rituals such as sports and play to the solemnity of religious beliefs ; “Urban Scenographies” in which the protagonists are new architectures of forms and environments painted and constructed with a theatricality that reveals a new concept of space ; “Omens” in which there is a new feeling of forewarning about the determination of future events, their outcome and consequences ; " Natura viva" revises, on the other hand, the concept of still life and every painted object becomes a living presence; and finally “Guardami” a succession of female figures, painted, sculpted, suffered, dreamed accompanies toward the end of an aesthetic path that culminates in the search for an inner beauty.

A final exhibition section, curated by Marcello Riccioni and realized in collaboration with the Civica Raccolta del Disegno di Salò, showcases a selection of drawings that offer visitors an intimate and natural vision of the artist, revealing that feeling of research and spontaneity that is often lost in the complexity of the finished work of art.

MuSa director Giordano Bruno Guerri explains, “This exhibition retraces the fervors and ferments of Italian art between the two wars, and wants to become a careful reflection of all those milestones that were fundamental for the developments of national and international art in this century.”
