In Termoli and Rome, two exhibitions to celebrate Jacovitti and his fantasy world

One hundred years after his birth, Jacovitti is celebrated with two parallel and complementary exhibitions in Termoli and Rome. October 2023 through February 2024.

Two exhibitions to celebrate, one hundred years after his birth, the fantastic world, the playful and irreverent inventiveness, and the precursor gaze of Benito Franco Giuseppe Jacovitti (Termoli, 1923 - Rome, 1997), who made his debut as a comic book author at a very young age and went on to become an important figure in twentieth-century comics. His characters became famous in the popular imagination: Coconut Bill, Zorry Kid, Mandolin Jack, Nosey Tom.

The two exhibitions, created together with the cartoonist’s daughter, Silvia, will be held in Termoli and Rome, in two locations, under one title: Jacovittissime. Two parallel and complementary projects intended to contribute to a deeper understanding of Jacovitti’s creative universe.

From Oct. 7, 2023 to Feb. 26, 2024, MACTE Museo di Arte Contemporanea in Termoli will host the exhibition Tutte le follie di Jac!, curated by Luca Raffaelli, which aims to delve into the technical and linguistic inventions that made The Fishbone a recognizable style, and Jacovitti an inventor of unforgettable signs and characters.

Instead, from October 24, 2023 to February 18, 2023, the exhibition L’incontenibile arte dell’umorismo, curated by Dino Aloi and Silvia Jacovitti with Giulia Ferracci, will be held at MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome. A review with an anthological slant that presents the hundred characters created during the phases of the cartoonist’s long and vibrant career.
