An unprecedented and bizarre collaboration promises to make thecontemporary art world in Italy discuss: it is the one between Giulio Alvigini and Luca Rossi, the two most disruptive provocateurs of the Italianart world in recent years. Together, they are the protagonists of a double solo show with a title that is all a program(Padiglione Itaglia) hosted at MAG | Magazzeno Art Gaze, an unprejudiced art gallery founded by Alessandra Carini in 2016 in Ravenna. The exhibition is an opportunity to inaugurate the gallery’s new Bologna space at 5/E Via Testoni (which will become MAG’s main space), starting April 24 from 6 to 10 p.m.

The exhibition comes at a time when the calendar is congested with April’s cultural events (first Miart, then Salone del Mobile and the Venice Biennale together), and MAG promises to shake up the art spring with an alternative and unexpected exhibition. Alvigini and Rossi’s Itaglia Pavilion is equally divided between the works of the two, but the gallery will not only be an exhibition venue: it will also be a center for experimentation, discussion and conviviality since, MAG announces, numerous activities will be organized, including presentations, aperitifs, dinners with the artists and residencies. MAG in Bologna will moreover also have a bar and a bookshop, the latter curated by Bonobolabo.

“Our goal is to subvert the rules and old conventions of the Italian art world,” says Alessandra Carini, founder of MAG. “We want to create havoc by challenging established norms and offering a platform for the most daring and innovative artists of the moment.”

Openings will be guaranteed Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (variable hours), with weekly aperitifs on Fridays, offering art and culture lovers a new must-see destination in the heart of Bologna. A videoteaser, Netflix-style, has also been released ahead of the exhibition. So all that remains is to see what Alvigini and Rossi will be up to together.
