From Sept. 26 to Nov. 9, 2025, the Palazzo Marchesale in Matino (Lecce, Italy) will host Snack It!, the new solo exhibition by British photographer Martin Parr (Epsom, 1952), co-produced by Creation with the contribution of the Municipality of Matino, and included in the Yeast Photo Festival program. The exhibition is presented as a visual investigation into the rituals, tastes and eccentricities of everyday life, offering visitors an experience that goes beyond simply observing food.
Snack It! represents a veritable feast for the eyes, where Parr showcases decades of work and reflection on human behavior through the lens of documentary photography. The British artist, known for his ironic gaze and ability to capture seemingly mundane details, turns the depiction of food into a mirror of social dynamics, collective behaviors and the subtle tensions that run through everyday life. From the most spontaneous moments to scenes charged with silent irony, such as those portrayed in the series Bored Couples, Parr uses food as a tool for storytelling and reflection, able to highlight cultural differences, rituals and everyday gestures. The exhibition will be previewed between Sept. 26 and Nov. 9, 2025 at the Purità Beach in Gallipoli, offering the public a first taste of the author’s visual poetics.
Martin Parr, born in 1952, is among Britain’s most internationally recognized photographers. A member of Magnum Photos since 1994 and founder of the Martin Parr Foundation, he has built a career that has revolutionized the way documentary photography is understood, publishing more than 120 books and curating numerous international exhibitions. His retrospectives at the Barbican and the National Portrait Gallery solidified his position among the leading observers of contemporary society. Awarded several times for his work, Parr has contributed to the dissemination of photographic culture globally, with an approach capable of combining irony, social acuity and the ability to observe the most minute details of everyday life.
Snack It! is thus a reflection on the meaning it takes on in everyday life and the social interactions it generates. The use of color, the composition of the scenes and the choice of subjects allow us to capture nuances of behavior that often escape the common eye, making the exhibition a tool for cultural analysis as well as an aesthetic experience. Parr invites the visitor to confront the photographed reality without celebratory filters, showing the everyday with an ironic and sometimes sarcastic tone, but always carefully observed and structured.
