From March 28 to May 24, 2026, the Mirad’Or in Pisogne, overlooking Lake Iseo, is dedicating an exhibition to Nanni Valentini (Sant’Angelo in Vado, 1932 - Vimercate, 1985), among the most original and intense figures of art in the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition, entitled Volto e Luogo, is curated by Simona Spinella under the supervision and coordination of Flaminio Gualdoni and Marco Lagorio, and is promoted by the Municipality of Pisogne, in collaboration with theNanni Valentini Archive, the ABC - ARTE Genoa-Milan gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture of Matera (MUSMA).
The exhibition project is developed between the spaces of the Mirad’Or and the Church of Santa Maria della Neve and presents a selection of stoneware works, some of them exhibited for the first time, characterized by signs, cracks and voids that investigate the relationship between matter and form. The theme of the face, developed in dialogue with the earth, builds an imaginary suspended between visionary dimension and philosophical reflection.
A young collaborator of Lucio Fontana, Valentini, trained between Pesaro and Faenza, was able to transform materials such as earth and clay into a deeply contemporary expressive language. His research can be read as a narrative that stems from the material itself: the modeled and etched surfaces return not only forms, but also traces of time, emotions and thought. In his autobiography of September 1983, Valentini wrote: “I do not seek in the earth how I can mark it or the images that its plasticity offers me, nor its colors that evoke warmth, but I seek those signs that can be detached, that can come out of it, and that it is possible for me to grasp...”
The Volto e Luogo exhibition also represents the third chapter of the international cultural program conceived for Mirad’Or by Flaminio Gualdoni, under the artistic direction of Marco Lagorio, developed in collaboration with ABC - ARTE Genova-Milano and the Municipality of Pisogne.
