Photographs and portraits of Burri from 1954 to 1993: Città di Castello pays tribute to its great artist

From March 12 to Sept. 12, 2019, the Burri Foundation in Città di Castello is hosting the exhibition 'Photographs and Photo Portraits of Alberto Burri from 1954 to 1993'

From March 12 to Sept. 12, the Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri in Città di Castello(Perugia) is hosting the exhibition Lenses on Burri - Photographs and Photo-Portraits of Alberto Burri from 1954 to 1993, an event that not only remembers the great Alberto Burri, but also, for the first time, performs an exhaustive survey of the major and most assiduous practitioners of photography who portrayed him at different times and circumstances of his life. The portraits, starting from the 1950s, when Burri was beginning to consolidate his artistic path, scrutinize and fix in prints of great intensity and historical value, expressions, actions, places, frequentations, habits and solitary moments of the great artist for whom painting represented a choice of life and a radical and uncompromising commitment to the authenticity of his own poetic vocation.

On the occasion of this exhibition, conceived and realized curated by Bruno Corà, an additional 2,300 square meters of new museum space will be opened to the public, appropriately set up at the Ex Seccatoi, in which will take place, in addition to the scheduled event, future initiatives aimed at deepening the study and knowledge of Burri’s work and the influence he exerted on contemporary art. Among the many professional photographers identified, the exhibition includes photographic works by Amendola, Basilico, Bavagnoli, Benelli, Cantini, Colombo, Contino, De Martiis, Drudi, Fabbri, Gatti, Gendel, Gorgoni, Kuni, Lanfranco, Lazarus, Linke, Loy, McHugh, Mihich, Muchnik, Mulas, Parisi, Patellani, Powell, Rossi, Roth, Sanders, Sarisson, Sommelius, Thomas, Vaccaro, Villers, Visca, Vogler, Zavattini.

A catalog edited by the Foundation will be published for the occasion, which, in addition to collecting the most significant images of the selected photographers, will include essays and critical contributions by Bruno Corà, Aldo Iori, Rita Olivieri and Chiara Sarteanesi, as well as bibliographical apparatuses and biographical files on the photographers, compiled by Greta Boninsegni. Guided tours and a series of lectures on the work of some of the photographers who worked assiduously with the Maestro are planned.
