Rome: an exhibition on Giacomo Leopardi at the Piomonte Gallery.

Roman Idyll: an exhibition on Giacomo Leopardi at the Piomonte Gallery in Rome through January 5, 2018.

“Idill’io Romano” is the name of the exhibition dedicated to Giacomo Leopardi being held at the Piomonte Gallery in Rome until January 5, 2018, featuring contemporary artists Niba (Michela Nibaldi) and Baldo Diodato. The gallery is located in Palazzo Mattei, the same building where Leopardi had spent his first stay in Rome, from November 1822 until April 1823, as a guest of his uncle Carlo Antici.

Nikla Cingolani writes in her text in the catalog: "With the work of Niba (Michela Nibaldi), a gold sculpture of Giacomo Leopardi, and with the sampietrini-frottage of Baldo Diodato, the space is transformed into an alchemical crucible capable of containing and transforming the various materials into vibrations of light (...) Bound by the greatness of time, in the absolute space of the gallery, the works synthesize the’union between the vertical tension symbolizing transcendence and spirituality (Niba), and the horizontal tension linked to experience and social stratification (Diodato), which for the occasion is transformed into a “lunar” carpet where the divine Leopardi walks toward eternity."
Laura Cherubini, on the other hand, says in her text in the catalog, "So the young Giacomo continues his truly international grand tour among books, resumes the journey begun in the meanders of his father Monaldo’s library, continues his walk on the uncomfortable Roman path, as on a treadmill that runs through time, in the meager light of a day that dies young, the one dedicated to Lucia, the Saint whose eyes they took away to see."

The exhibition is open Monday through Saturday from 12 to 8 p.m.
