From September 15 to December 20, 2026, the GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan will host the eighth edition of Furla Series, featuring a solo exhibition by Indian artist Shilpa Gupta, curated by Bruna Roccasalva. The exhibition, sponsored by the Furla Foundation and the GAM, will be preceded on September 14 by a press conference and preview at 11 a.m., followed by the official opening at 7 p.m.
Recognized as one of the leading figures in international contemporary art, Shilpa Gupta’s practice explores themes such as language, censorship, mobility, and the social and political structures that shape the construction of identity and the exercise of individual freedom. Her work is structured around a multidisciplinary practice that encompasses sculpture, light installations, video, sound, and performance, with works that explore the relationships between languages, territories, the private sphere and public space, as well as individual and collective experience.
The exhibition brings together a series of new works conceived specifically for the GAM’s spaces and offers a synthesis of the elements that characterize the artist’s practice, developed over more than twenty years. The exhibition project is part of the dialogue between contemporary art and the historical museum context that defines the Milan venue’s exhibition program.
The initiative is part of a multi-year partnership launched in 2021 by the Furla Foundation and GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Milano. The agreement provides for the annual creation of a new exhibition project, designed to foster a dialogue between contemporary art, the museum’s historic spaces, and its permanent collection.
Furla Series is a program promoted by the Furla Foundation since 2017 in collaboration with Italian art institutions. The project is dedicated to organizing solo exhibitions by female artists and was created with the goal of highlighting and increasing the visibility of women’s contributions to contemporary culture.
