Steve McCurry's food photos in Ventimiglia

From May 7 to Sept. 4, Ventimiglia's Annunziata Fort hosts 'Food,' an exhibition by the great photographer Steve McCurry.

Ventimiglia hosts the major photography exhibition Food by Steve McCurry, the first event in the Beyond Food review, organized by Marina Development Corporation. The exhibition over the next few months will also offer a series of high-profile cultural and food and wine events that will mark the stages of an unprecedented season at Marina di Ventimiglia, the new tourist-receptive destination along the Flower Riviera.

The exhibition, under the patronage of the City of Ventimiglia, will be staged until Sunday, September 4, 2022 inside the museum spaces of the Forte dell’Annunziata, the characteristic fortress from the first half of the 19th century that, with its wide terrace overlooking the sea at Punta Rocca, jutting out toward the French Riviera, opens onto one of the most beautiful views in the world. The exhibition, curated by Biba Giacchetti based on a project by Sudest57 and set design by Peter Bottazzi, brings together 70 shots by one of the most influential and unmistakable voices in contemporary photography, four-time World Press Photo winner, which tell of food as a source of life, socialization, family affection and reassurance, but also of the relationship between humanity and impervious lands, pushing into places tortured by wars or natural disasters, yet not forgetting the lushness of markets and the beauty of nature.

McCurry’s eye once again guides us inside an immersive and richly evocative journey, testifying to how food remains central to humankind and a direct expression of cultures and territories.
