A dialogue between sports, art and contemporary culture takes shape at the Milan Triennale through the Art Posters of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. From June 19, 2025 to March 15, 2026, the historic Milan institution will host an exhibition dedicated to the ten official art posters of the event, created by young Italian artists under 40. The initiative is promoted by the Milan Cortina 2026 Foundation and Triennale Milano, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The Art Posters were presented on June 18, 2025 at Triennale Milano, in the presence of the authors and representatives of the institutions involved in the project. The series includes five posters dedicated to the Olympic Games and five to the Paralympic Games. The former were created by Beatrice Alici, Martina Cassatella, Giorgia Garzilli, Maddalena Tesser and Flaminia Veronesi. The second ones bear the signature of Roberto de Pinto, Andrea Fontanari, Aronne Pleuteri, Clara Woods and Giulia Mangoni. Their works return a multifaceted image of Olympic values, offering visual interpretations ranging from symbolism to narrative, from figuration to chromatic and conceptual experimentation.
“The Art Posters initiative and the collaboration with Triennale Milano,” comments Domenico De Maio, Education & Cultural Director of the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, “confirm the Foundation’s commitment to promoting participatory and inclusive projects that put artists, entities and organizations at the center, to enhance the country’s cultural excellence and leave a lasting symbolic legacy on the path to the next Winter Olympics and Paralympics. This is, in fact, the heart of the Cultural Olympiad, of which the Art Posters project is a part. The ambition is that this experience can represent for the young artists involved an opportunity for growth and affirmation also internationally.”
“Thanks to the collaboration Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, we have started a journey towards the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games,” says Carla Morogallo, Director General of Triennale Milano. “The different initiatives and projects investigate sport and Olympic values through the multiplicity of practices, languages and visions that Triennale Milano encompasses.”
“Since 1972, Art Posters have helped shape the visual and cultural legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” adds Angelita Teo, Director of the Olympic Museum. “This new generation of young Italian artists continues this proud tradition. As custodians of the cultural and artistic heritage of the Games, we welcome these new works to our collection of Olympic Art Posters.”
The project is part of the long tradition of Art Posters related to the Games, an established practice since the early twentieth century. Unlike the institutional posters, known as Iconic Posters, which will be presented at Triennale Milano in fall 2025, Art Posters are original works commissioned from artists with the aim of exploring the themes of the Games in a free and personal way. This is a custom that has featured figures of the caliber of Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney and Eduardo Chillida over time. In this groove is the Italian initiative, which entrusts the visual narrative of the sporting event to a new generation of authors. The curatorship of the project was entrusted to Damiano Gullì, curator for contemporary art and public program at Triennale Milano. The choice of artists was made in continuity with the activity of promoting young Italian art conducted by the institution in recent years, in particular with the path started through the exhibition Pittura italiana oggi del 2023. The intention was to enhance different languages and heterogeneous approaches, reflecting the richness of the national contemporary scene and the creative energy that runs through the country.
In addition to the exhibition, the collaboration between Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and Triennale Milano will continue in the coming months with a schedule of events and cultural appointments, included in the institution’s public program. The dialogue between sport, art and society will be at the center of meetings, round tables and moments of in-depth analysis that will accompany the preparation of the Games and offer further opportunities to reflect on the role of art in the construction of the collective imagination. Milan Cortina 2026 Art Posters will be available for purchase at the Triennale bookshop. Information on other sales channels, both physical and digital, can be found on the official Milano Cortina 2026 channels.
