The exhibition dedicated to the Bronzes of St. Casciano comes to the National Archaeological Museum in Aquileia, from December 5, 2025 to March 8, 2026. More than three hundred artifacts will be on display, including also finds from the latest archaeological investigations presented for the first time in Italy.

After being hosted at the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome, the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, the National Archaeological Museum in Reggio Calabria, and the James-Simon-Galerie in Berlin, the exhibition The Gods Return. The Bronzes of San Casciano comes to the National Archaeological Museum in Aquileia, from December 5, 2025 to March 8, 2026.

Curated by Massimo Osanna and Jacopo Tabolli, the exhibition is dedicated to one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of recent decades: the Etruscan-Roman thermal sanctuary of San Casciano dei Bagni in the province of Siena. The initiative is made possible thanks to the collaboration between the General Directorate for Museums of the Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio of the provinces of Siena, Grosseto and Arezzo, the University for Foreigners of Siena and the Municipality of San Casciano dei Bagni.

The public will be able to admire the exceptional finds from the thermal sanctuary of San Casciano dei Bagni: the largest deposit of bronze statues from Etruscan and Roman times ever discovered in ancient Italy. The exhibition will allow visitors to see more than three hundred artifacts unearthed during excavation campaigns carried out between 2022 and 2024 at the Bagno Grande site by the University for Foreigners of Siena, with the support of the Superintendence and the Municipality of San Casciano dei Bagni.

The display, in the new deposits of the National Archaeological Museum of Aquileia, enriches the exhibition itinerary with artifacts that have emerged from the latest archaeological investigations, presented for the first time in Italy. These are finds that testify to centuries of rituals and votive practices in a place marked by the presence of hot waters, which still preserve in the place name the memory of the thermal vocation of the territory. Men and women, adults and children, from different cultures and with different languages, frequented and shared this sanctuary, whose sacredness was inextricably linked to the thermal waters with their distinct therapeutic qualities.

The theme of contact, exchange and contamination between cultures will be the main theme of the Aquileia stage of the exhibition, which is part of the program of initiatives planned for the celebrations of GO!2025 - Nova Gorica-Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025.
