Turin: a new exhibit at the Sabauda Gallery

The Sabauda Gallery in Turin gets a new display for about fifty works ranging from the late fourteenth to the mid-sixteenth century.

With the project “Another Harmony. Masters of the Renaissance in Piedmont,” curated by Annamaria Bava, the Galleria Sabauda in Turin is proposing a new display for about fifty works dating from the late 14th to the mid-16th century.
The aim of this rearrangement is to draw the visitor’s attention to the cultural heritage of the Piedmontese territory by admiring the gold-backed panels and polyptychs by artists such as Martino Spanzotti, Defendente Ferrari, Macrino d’Alba, Pietro Grammorseo, Gaudenzio Ferrari, and Gerolamo Giovenone.

The new exhibit occupies 380 sq. m. on the ground floor of the building, in the south wing towards the Royal Palace, and is divided into 9 sections: 1) Gothic Elegance; 2) On the Altars of Piedmont: the Form of the Polyptych; 3) Giovanni Martino Spanzotti; 4) The Seduction of Rome: Macrino d’Alba; 5) Looking beyond the Alps: Defendente Ferrari; 6) The eccentrics; 7) A voice of the Renaissance: Gaudenzio Ferrari; 8) The organization of the workshop; 9) Mannerism.

Enrica Pagella, director of the Royal Museums, explains, “We felt it was necessary to open a new exhibition venue on the ground floor, where we built new nuclei dedicated to temporary exhibitions. The Royal Museums of Turin,” said the director again, "have passed the first phase, doors have been reopened, relationships have been re-established. There is still much to do, but we are working to make our Museums more accessible, innovative and inclusive, to play on par with the great international Museums, certain that we have the public on our side."

2017 proved to be a particularly prosperous year for the Turin Museum, with 20.5 percent more visitors than in 2016.
The new exhibit will be open from December 16, 2017 to December 31, 2018 from Tuesday to Sunday (Monday is the closing day) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (December 24 and 31 will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., while December 25 and January 1 will be closed). The ticket price is €12 for the full ticket and €6 for the reduced ticket (18 to 25 year olds), while admission is free for children under 18.
