From April 20 to July 21, 2024, the exhibition spaces of the Mastio della Cittadella in Turin will host the exhibition Henri de Toulouse Lautrec. The World of the Circus and Montmartre, curated by Joan Abelló, produced by Navigare srl with the patronage of the Piedmont Region and City of Turin.

The exhibition aims to celebrate 160 years since the artist’s birth through more than 120 works, including his iconic lithographs and posters. Intent is to offer an in-depth look at the works of one of the greatest masters of 19th-centurygraphic art in the context of fin-de-siècle Paris.

Divided into four sections(The Posters and Illustrations; The Circus; The Portraits; The Multimedia Experience), the exhibition will open with an overview of the vibrant artistic and cultural environment of Paris during the Belle Époque, highlighting the atmosphere of the cafés, cabarets, theaters and the circus that so inspired Toulouse-Lautrec. Toulouse-Lautrec found inspiration in the streets and clubs of Montmartre, among them the Moulin Rouge, which became the subjects of many of his most famous works.

The exhibition itinerary aims to highlight precisely his recurring themes, including the circus, Parisian nightlife, portraits of artists and celebrities of the time, and the representation of the marginalized social classes. Through a chronological and thematic sequence, there will be an opportunity to appreciate the evolution of Toulouse-Lautrec’s style and the different techniques employed throughout his career.
