Venice Biennale, at the Mexico pavilion an installation by Erick Meyenberg

Meyenberg's exhibition for the Mexico Pavilion at the Venice Biennale explores migration, a central idea in Mexico's history, offering thoughts on the potential for a more promising future.

The Mexican Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia scheduled from April 20 to Nov. 24, 2024 presents "Nos marchábamos, regresábamos siempre," “We left, we always came back,” a video installation by multidisciplinary artist Erick Meyenberg on display at the Arsenale Hall of Arms. The project curated by Tania Ragasol was selected through a public call initiated by the Ministry of Culture and INBAL under the poignant theme of “Foreigners Everywhere - Foreigners Everywhere” conceived by Venice Biennale 2024 curator Adriano Pedrosa.

The installation, enhanced by ceramic sculptures blending elements from Mexico, Italy and Albania, reflects deeply on themes such as migration, the search for belonging and the perennial human condition of seeking roots in a transient world. Through the narrative lens of the Doda family - Albanian migrants who have made Italy their home - Meyenberg’s work examines the complexities of family ties and the universal experiences of loss and appreciation that take place around the family table. The installation invites visitors to reflect on the iterative nature of travel and the complex identities that evolve in environments of constant change.

The exhibition will also include, on April 20 and 21, a performance by was bleibt kollektiv/Gentian Doda, enriching the narrative with choreographed expressions of Meyenberg’s themes and offering the audience an immersive experience at the emotional heart of the installation.
