A special auction at Julien’s Auctions will offer collectors and fans a privileged look into the creative universe of one of the greatest masters of contemporary cinema-David Lynch. Nearly 450 pieces from the personal archive of the director who signed such masterpieces as Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, Lost Roads, Inland Empire, Wild Heart, A True Story, The Elephant Man, Dune and many others will be auctioned.
The exclusive, first-to-marketauction, titled The David Lynch Collection, will open the Hollywood Legends marathon next Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Julien’s Studios in Los Angeles, with opportunities to participate by bidding online or by phone. This auction represents an exclusive invitation to explore Lynch’s creative genius.
The archive includes nearly 450 items from directly from Lynch’s home, including personal items, props from his films, tools from his personal woodworking shop, and even the paints used in his art studio. Each item tells a fragment of his creative imagination.
Significant pieces include Lynch’s director’s chair, with his name on the back, estimated between $5,000 and $7,000, and for Twin Peaks fans, the red Black Lodge-style curtain and black-and-white zig-zag rug owned by Lynch (estimated between $1,000 and $2,000), decorative pieces Lynch kept in his home.
Particularly valuable is the personal 35mm film print of Eraserhead, his debut feature (estimated between $500 and $700), the same one that helped launch his career and define a new film genre. Fans of Twin Peaks: The Return will recognize the large framed photograph of a nuclear bomb explosion in Gordon Cole’s office, matched to the screen of episode seven (valued between $1,000 and $2,000). Also arriving from Mulholland Drive are four colorful prop menus from Winkie’s Sunset Blvd (estimated between $500 and $700), evoking the film’s enigmatic atmosphere.
In addition to film, the auction also reveals Lynch’s personal passions. His La Marzocco GS/3 espresso machine (valued between $2,000 and $3,000) testifies to his love of coffee, while a vintage Boomerang sofa upholstered in tan chenille with wooden legs and coffee table, the same model that appeared in Lost Roads (valued between $3,000 and $5,000), invites immersion in the aesthetics of his films. Music lovers will be fascinated by his 2012 Danny Ferrington console steel guitar with five fret handles (valued between $2,000 and $3,000), designed and played by Lynch himself. In addition, for vinyl fans, his personal collection of Blue Velvet records (valued between $400 and $600) offers a sonic journey into the film’s universe.
“These historic and beloved pieces that reflect David Lynch’s unique artistic vision, as well as his passions and activities, from the director’s chair to the espresso machine, guitar to record collections, and Twin Peaks-style furniture, come directly from the home of the visionary artist whose enigmatic films sparked our most imaginative and collective surreal dreams,” said Catherine Williamson, managing director of entertainment at Julien’s Auctions.
