Faenza's MIC enriches the exhibition itinerary of the permanent collection

The MIC in Faenza enriches the exhibition itinerary of its permanent collection, the largest collection of ceramics in the world.

The MIC in Faenza is home to the world’s largest collection of ceramics and is now further enriching the exhibition of its permanent collection. It holds ancient ceramics from pre-Columbian civilizations, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and the Far East, as well as ceramics from Italian Renaissance workshops, to artifacts belonging to the 20th century and contemporary art.

Present are masterpieces by Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Arman, Fontana, Leoncillo, Baj, Burri, and Paladino: sculptors who since the early 20th century have also devoted themselves to ceramics.

Since June 17, the Renaissance section has been renewed with a partial exhibition update that brings together sculptural majolica from the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Works in which the devotional character and depiction of piety, mourning, nativity with late Gothic influences is frequent. Also suggestive are sculptural groups with secular themes and scenes from classical myths.

From July the Florentine Della Robbia workshop will also be explored in the Renaissance section. Here, too, the nucleus of Della Robbia ceramics housed at the MIC will be brought together from an exhibition standpoint, including sculptural and bas-relief specimens that hark back to the sphere of Andrea Della Robbia. Also brought together are ornamental vases depicting compositions of flowers, fruit and vegetables made by Luca Della Robbia. These objects mostly come from the devotional section located in the basement of the museum, which in turn will be destined to house a new section devoted to ceramics of use and design products.
