Francesco Manacorda is the new director of the Rivoli Castle


The Castello di Rivoli - Museum of Contemporary Art has a new director: he is Francesco Manacorda, who will take office on January 1, 2024, succeeding Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev who is close to retirement.

The Castello di Rivoli - Museum of Contemporary Art has a new director: he is Francis Manacorda from Piedmont (Turin, 1974), who succeeds Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev at the helm of the contemporary art museum. The new director was chosen after a public expression of interest by a selection committee chaired by Francesca Lavazza, President of the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art, and composed of Richard Armstrong, who was Director The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation from 2008 until July 2023; Andrea Ruben Levi, collector, Benefactor Fellow of the Castello di Rivoli, member of the Board of Trustees of the New Museum in New York; Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, collector, Chair of the foundation of the same name, Chair of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT; Sir Nicholas Serota, Chair Arts Council England, former Director Tate.



Francis Manacorda was Artistic Director of the V-A-C Foundation in Venice (2017-22), and before that he was Artistic Director of Tate Liverpool (2012-17), then Director of Artissima for a two-year period (2010-12) and Curator at the Barbican Art Gallery (2007-09). From 2006 to 2011 he was Lecturer in the Department of Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art, London. He co-curated the Liverpool Biennial in 2016 and the 11th Taipei Biennial in 2018.
