The new director of the Uffizi Galleries, Simone Verde, took office this morning. The newly appointed director, after an initial general inspection of the Uffizi, the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens, immediately began to delve into the main dossiers. In the coming days he will meet with curators, architects and officials to move on to the executive phase of the project on the basis of which he was appointed.
“First of all, I thank Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano for the trust,” Verde said this morning. “In these first days the first design checks will be carried out with the staff. We can say that the vision by which we will be inspired is that of a consolidation of the important results achieved by Eike Schmidt and a mighty investment on services, museographic and museological quality, supported by a punctual scientific research activity.”
Born in Rome in 1975, Simone Verde is a museologist and art historian. From 2014 to 2016 he was head of scientific research at the Louvre in Abu Dhabi, and from 2016 to 2023 he directed the Complesso Monumentale della Pilotta whose total restoration and refurbishment he completed.
