On the night of Aug. 10-11, Pietro Bellasi, a scholar of sociology and anthropology of art, passed away.

The funeral of Pietro Bellasi, a scholar of sociology and anthropology of art, was held yesterday, Monday, Aug. 13, 2018. Disappeared in Milan on the night of Aug. 10-11, Bellasi was found dead in the bed of his Milanese home in foro Bonaparte by his wife, Katerina Papageorgiou, a Greek by birth and of Orthodox faith. For this reason, the funeral was held at the Orthodox Church of St. Basil the Great, 35 Via Sant’Isaia.
A native of Pistoia, Bellasi dedicated his life to teaching and outreach, with the visual arts, their impact on man and society and their moral implications at the center of his reflections.

A graduate in Sociology from the Faculté de Sciences Economiques et Sociales in Geneva, Bellasi taught this very subject at theUniversity of Bologna from 1971 until 2004, also teaching courses in Sociology of Art in Science of Public and Social Communication.



After retiring, he moved to Milan and began collaborating with the Mazzotta Foundation, where he was a member of the artistic direction and scientific committee, conceiving and curating numerous socio-anthropological and contemporary art exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including “Giacometti and the Archaic”(Nuoro, 2014), “Body, Automata and Robots”(Lugano, 2010) and “The Giacomettis. The Valley and the World” (Milan and Mannheim, 2000-2001).
