At the Roman Theater in Fiesole illustrated the projects of the dossier "Dialogues between earth and sky," which gathers 62 initiatives for the candidacy as Italian Capital of Culture 2028. Eight thematic chapters, including music, landscape, memory and innovation. Also present was a video message of support from Roberto Vecchioni.

An evening of music, meetings and projects marked the official start of Fiesole ’s run for Italian Capital of Culture 2028. On Saturday, September 13, at the Roman Theater, the mayor and the scientific director of the candidacy, Paolo Verri, presented the main contents of the dossier Dialogues between Earth and Sky, a document that will be delivered by September 25 to the Ministry of Culture. The text brings together 62 proposals born from citizenship and divided into eight thematic chapters. More than 600 citizens, involved in six months of public meetings, contributed to the construction of the project. The evening was accompanied by musical interventions by the Fiesole School of Music, the G. Philharmonic. Verdi and other local entities, while a video message from Roberto Vecchioni brought symbolic support to the candidacy. The singer-songwriter recounted his connection with the city and recalled the figure of Catilina as a historical and cultural reference.

“An unforgettable evening in which the planning strength of the community of Fiesole and its territory appears evident. The dialogue born between institutions and citizens with the dossier is already the most mature and indelible fruit of this candidacy,” commented Paolo Verri, scientific coordinator of Fiesole 2028.

The first chapter, Fiesole città che risuona, gives music a central role, with the School of Music committed to relaunching the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana through new training activities, master classes and artistic residencies led by internationally renowned conductors. The second, Fiesole secret garden, aims to enhance a widespread heritage often invisible to the public: villas, convents, Renaissance courtyards, private botanical gardens, panoramic terraces and artisan workshops. The goal is to build a network of 28 urban squares in which to integrate cultural and community spaces. The Fiesole diffuse community section proposes social and territorial regeneration initiatives. The StArt Attitude association will organize a contemporary public art festival, while the Compiobbi a Colori project aims to transform the hamlet into a district dedicated to art. The fourth chapter, Fiesole transmission of memory, focuses on the reworking of historical and literary heritage. Fondazione Giovanni Michelucci and Fondazione Fabbrica Europa, together with Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, offer a grand performance inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio’s Ninfale fiesolano.

Fiesole Landscape of Knowledge, on the other hand, introduces initiatives related to the environment and education, such as OrtiCultura, presented by the organic district led by Silvia Cantini, and Libraries on the Move, illustrated by Alessandro Lattanzi. The chapter Fiesole human nature addresses the relationship between humans and the environment. Ulrike Liebert described the Cultivating the Social Garden project, which focuses on community agriculture as a tool for ecological democracy. Jacopo Papp, from Circolo La Montanina, on the other hand, presented Gratitude, a path to enhance the paths of the Resistance in the area. In the section Fiesole finestra sull’infinito (Fiesole Window on Infinity), Paolo Verri recalled Berlinghiero Buonarroti’s project linking combinatorial machines to artificial intelligence.

Finally, Fiesole center of cosmopolitan culture looks at the city’s international role through its collaboration with the European University Institute. Elena Torta presented the European Union Historical Archives sharing project and the involvement of young researchers as ambassadors of the candidacy, with a focus on digital promotion. In closing, Giulio Cerri, a doctoral student in medieval studies, emphasized the link between the community’s millennial roots and future prospects.

The evening at the Roman Theater concluded with performances by Fiesole Harmonie, the Homme Armée Consort and the Orchestra dei Ragazzi della Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, before the final salute to the notes of John Lennon’s Imagine. The dossier, after the official handover to the Ministry, will be made public and downloadable online, marking the next stage in the path leading to the choice of the Italian Capital of Culture 2028.
