Florence: ceramics workshop for differently abled starts at the Museo dellOpera del Duomo

The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Florence will host a glazed pottery workshop for differently abled people.

At the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence, there will be a glazed pottery workshop dedicated to differently abled people, a project conceived by the museum’s educational section and financed by restoration materials company Phase.

Fifteen differently abled young people, guests of the Villa San Luigi center of the Fondazione Opera Diocesana di Assistenza Firenze Onlus in Castello, will be part of this initiative under the guidance of master potters Sandra and Stefano Giusti and will learn the techniques of this ancient art and then create a decorated ceramic composition, in the style of the so-called “robbiane” or the reproduction of a work preserved inside the Opera del Duomo Museum.

The aim of the project is to bring people closer to artistic handicrafts, from carving to lost wax inlay, gold leaf, glazed pottery to porcelain and mosaic.
Explains Luca Bagnoli, president of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, “Through collaboration with a local company, the Opera has been able to expand its educational activities to people with disabilities as well, working on accessibility and inclusion.” Don Fabio Marella, president of the Oda Foundation, commented, “For our youngsters this is an important occasion, it represents an educational opportunity that brings them closer to an ancient craft, but also a moment of integration with the territory in the discovery of its artistic peculiarities: all precious pieces of the rehabilitation path of each of the children assisted by the Foundation.”

" Phase Restauro, among its various activities," says owner Antonio Gaglio, “supports the dissemination and promotion of arts and crafts related to the tradition of craft knowledge, this workshop allows us to participate and make our goals concrete as well, in the idea that this collaboration can be further consolidated and developed over time.”
