Florence, climbs the Neptune Fountain and causes damage estimated at around 5,000 euros. A 28-year-old foreign woman was charged by municipal police for defacing an artistic-architectural asset after an incident last Saturday in Piazza della Signoria. According to reconstruction and as reported by Ansa, the young woman allegedly reached the structure, also known as the Biancone and created by Bartolomeo Ammannati, as part of a premarital challenge. The stated intention would have been to touch the intimate parts of the statue, in a sort of competition organized for the occasion.
To gain access to the monument the woman would have climbed over both the grating and the edge of the pool. To avoid entering the water she allegedly climbed directly onto the legs of the horses supporting the shell of the sculptural composition. Municipal police responded to the scene, spotting the 28-year-old and immediately getting her out of the fountain. Yesterday morning, specialists from the Fabbrica di Palazzo Vecchio carried out an inspection to check for possible consequences on the monument. As the newspaper still reports, the inspection revealed minor but important damage to both the legs of the horses on which the young woman had walked and a frieze to which she allegedly clung to keep from slipping.
