In Turin, they want to build an eight-meter-high statue of Goldrake

In Turin, Mufant - Museum of the Fantastic has launched a fundraiser for the creation of an eight-meter-tall Goldrake statue. It will be included as part of a project to redevelop a city park dedicated to science fiction and cartoons.

A fundraiser to finance the creation of an eight-meter-tall Goldrake statue. It is being launched by the Mufant - Museum of the Fantastic and Science Fiction in Turin , which wants to allocate the colossal Japanese cartoon robot to the museum’s outdoor spaces where there are already seven other science fiction and fantasy-themed artworks (Sailor Moon, Frankenstein, Captain Harlock, the Fuzanglong dragon, Alien, Wonder Woman and the Werewolf). To make the statue, which will be made of corten steel, Mufant intends to reach the 13,900 euro threshold through a project launched on the crowdfunding platform “Productions from Below.” To date, more than three thousand euros have already been raised, and the campaign deadline is one month away. The total amount reaches eighteen thousand euros: in addition to those from the campaign, the museum in fact already has four thousand euros that will contribute to the budget.

According to the organizers, the statue should complete a redevelopment operation. “Today Generation Goldrake,” Mufant explains, “is engaged in a passionate Urban Regeneration project: the great public work of Goldrake will complete a redevelopment project of a large garden in the Turin suburbs, what we have called Parco del Fantastico. We want this space, overlooked by the entrance to the MUFANT Museum and already home to 7 works of urban art dedicated to the protagonists of science fiction and anime, to be more accessible, more beautiful and above all more attractive. We want people to come from all over Italy, and beyond, for a selfie next to the big Goldrake statue.”

The project will be by Mufant and its scientific committee led by the museum’s two co-founders, Silvia Casolari and Davide Monopoli, the technical design will then be drawn up by architect Ferruccio Capitani, director of the Piedmont section of AIAPP - Associazione Italiana Architettura del Paesaggio, and the statue will be finally made by the Fratelli Latini family of blacksmiths-artists (Mario and his children Cristiano and Valentina, a family business that combines sheet metal craftsmanship with modern computerized technologies). Certifying engineer Pier Cesare Uras will be responsible for drafting the safety data sheet.
