Konchalovsky's film dedicated to Michelangelo will have its world premiere in Rome

The world premiere of Andrei Konchalovsky's film The Sin - The Wrath of Michelangelo will be presented in Rome at the closing of the 14th Film Festival.

On Sunday, October 27, 2019, at the closing of the 14th Rome Film Festival, the world premiere of Andrei Konchalovsky ’s film The Sin - Michelangelo’s Fury will be shown.

The film, an Andrei Konchalovsky Studios, Jean Vigo Italia and Rai Cinema production, will be released in Italian cinemas on November 28, distributed by 01 Distribution.

Shooting began in August 2017 on Mount Altissimo, in the Henraux quarries, the same ones that were discovered by Michelangelo in 1517. For the production, the quarries had to include a large working plane with a perspective toward infinity, be in close proximity to steep terrain, over which Michelangelo on stage had to climb, and make possible the setting of a lizza route. The director was looking for a lunar, fascinating and impervious space that would restore the sense of the toil to which the quarrymen were subjected.

After an eight-year search, Konchalovsky staged an unseen Michelangelo: a man with many flaws behind the genius. A cinematic tale to portray the impetuous torment of Michelangelo’s character and his extraordinary and inimitable art.

From a historical perspective, the production relied on the input of consultants and experts for artistic choices, scenic solutions and props, costumes, as well as music, hairstyles and makeup. Key among them was that of Costantino Paolicchi, author of Michelangelo. Marble Dreams, which recounts Michelangelo’s adventure on Mount Altissimo-one of the first texts Konchalovsky read in preparation for the film.

“I am particularly honored to have hosted Maestro Konchalovsky, the actors, technicians and the entire production staff in our quarries on Mount Altissimo. Being part of a cultural project of such international stature has made all the men and women of Henraux proud, who will have the opportunity, together with a worldwide audience, to have a historical and exciting view of our quarries. In these places, discovered by Michelangelo himself, it was thrilling to see how the scenes were carved into the film to reveal a never-before-seen portrait of Michelangelo according to Konchalovsky’s extraordinary vision that tells the deepest humanity of the Renaissance genius,” said Paolo Carli, president of Henraux Spa and the Henraux Foundation.

Michelangelo was played by Alberto Testone, while other principal actors include Jakob Diehl, Francesco Gaudiello, Federico Vanni, Glenn Blackhall, Orso Maria Guerrini, Anita Pititto, Antonio Gargiulo, Massimo De Francovich and Simone Toffanin.
