Milan, ACE donates Albert Pinya's work dedicated to Munari to Cittadella Archivi

Albert Pinya's "Rediscovering Munari," donated by ACE to the City, opened at the Cittadella degli Archivi in Milan: a permanent intervention between contemporary art, public space and historical memory, as part of Milan Art Week 2026.

Rediscovering Munari, a site-specific work by Majorcan artist Albert Pinya (Palma, 1985), donated by ACE Creative Engineering to the City of Milan on the occasion of Milan Art Week 2026, was inaugurated at the Cittadella degli Archivi in Milan. The intervention is the centerpiece of the project included in the program The Purple Roses of Cittadella, promoted by the same Milan institution. The work was presented to coincide with the opening of the new Cittadella degli Archivi garden, which was affected by a botanical intervention that led to the planting of more than 1,500 essences, including more than 1,000 red roses. The garden has been rethought as a space accessible to the public and a place of relationship between the natural environment and art installations.

Rediscovering Munari becomes part of the Citadel’s permanent collection, contributing to the expansion of the city’s public artistic heritage and becoming part of the urban enhancement process of the Niguarda neighborhood. The realization of the work was made possible by the direct contribution of ACE, an integrated design company with offices in Milan, Florence and New York that has long been committed to supporting cultural initiatives.

The intervention consists of five colored aluminum sculptures: four smaller elements placed on the entrance capitals and a larger installation positioned in the interior garden. The work is configured as a tribute to Bruno Munari (Milan, 1907-1998), a leading figure in twentieth-century art and design, of whom the Citadel preserves important archival materials.

The project is part of ACE’s line of intervention oriented toward the promotion of initiatives that connect contemporary art, public space and historical memory, with the aim of generating cultural and social spin-offs. In this perspective, Rediscovering Munari refers to the theoretical and operational legacy of the Milanese artist, in particular to the conception of creativity as an open, shared and accessible process. The reference translates into an approach that considers art, design and pedagogy as interconnected domains, in which the process takes on a value equal to the result and becomes a ground for experimentation and research.

Pinya’s work is part of an established relationship with the Italian context, developed over more than two decades. Her artistic practice, characterized by a continuous expansion of the pictorial language through the use of different materials and techniques, finds a formal synthesis in this installation. A recurring element in his research is the face, used as a narrative device and visual structure.

“The face is the place where the gaze resides and through which the world is observed, the reflection of the soul. To draw or paint a face is to give life to a new being,” says the artist.

In parallel, ACE has over the years developed a cultural activity centered on drawing and paper as a shared language between art, architecture and engineering. This includes collaborations with Collezione Ramo and Milan Drawing Week between 2022 and 2025, as well as the opening of the studio on Via dei Piatti in Milan as an exhibition and experimental space for invited artists. These initiatives are complemented by the Tirana Metafisica publishing project with artist Gabriele Croppi, which combined artistic research and institutional dimensions in a context of international exchange.
