Residencies, training and production represent the pillars through which Fondazione MUS.E renews and strengthens its commitment to supportcontemporary art, launching two new calls aimed at artists, artists and curators.
Within the cultural programming of Fondazione MUS.E at MAD Murate Art District are, on the one hand, the Sharing Vision project, supported by the Region of Tuscany (as part of the regional ESF program and Toscana Incontemporanea) and Fondazione CR Firenze; on the other hand, the call Geografie d’innesto, promoted by the Region of Tuscany and funded by the ESF+ 2021-2027 Program, included in the framework of Giovanisì. Both initiatives involve the allocation of spaces and grants for artistic residencies at MAD Murate Art District and the Museo Novecento.
The first call concerns Geographies of Grafting, a project of residency, training and accompaniment to production aimed at 8 artists and 2 curators under 36, selected through a call for proposals. Financed by the Regional ESF+ Program 2021-2027 and included in the framework of Giovanisì, the Tuscany Region’s project for the autonomy of young people, Geografie d’innesto provides for the assignment of 10 lodgings and studios located in Florence for a duration of six months, as well as a residency grant of 500 euros net per month for each assignee.
The training, common to all participants, will include 240 hours of teaching concentrated in the first three months of the residency, from February to April 2026. The following months, May and June 2026, will instead be devoted to in-depth study of the target territories, research activities and production of the works, with the support of local mentors among senior artists, intellectuals and cultural workers. The program will conclude in July 2026 with a final group exhibition, accompanied by the publication of a catalog and a series of restitution initiatives designed to guide the public to the exhibition project. Applications must be received by 11 p.m. Jan. 6, 2026.
Alongside Geographies of Grafting, Fondazione MUS.E is promoting, in collaboration with the Culture Directorate of the City of Florence, a second call aimed at awarding studio spaces for artist residencies at MAD Murate Art District, in the period between January 27 and February 27, 2026. The initiative is part of the Sharing Visions project, implemented with the contribution of Fondazione CR Firenze and the support of the Region of Tuscany as part of Toscanaincontemporanea 2025, and is aimed at artists or collectives active in the field of contemporary art. The call provides artist studios and performance spaces within MAD Murate Art District, offering a qualified and stimulating context for research and production.
To support the selected residencies, MAD may also award a financial contribution of up to a maximum of 1,500 euros, earmarked for the realization of one or more projects, according to the Commission’s evaluations. Applications must be submitted by January 7, 2026.
“As the Region of Tuscany we fund the ranking of Artist Residencies. We are the first in Italy,” said Tuscan Regional Councillor for Culture Cristina Manetti, “to have chosen to invest in contemporary art using the resources of the European Social Fund: an innovative decision that links culture and training and offers young artists, artists and curators under 36 a concrete opportunity for professional growth. With these two calls, Tuscany strengthens its commitment to supporting contemporary art and the new generations, investing in paths that integrate residency, training and production. Projects such as Geographies of Grafting and residencies at MAD Murate Art District demonstrate how collaboration between institutions, foundations and territories can create real opportunities, offering time, spaces and resources for research and experimentation. It is a vision that puts young talent at the center, in line with Giovanisì and the regional policies supported by the ESF+, and that contributes to making Tuscany a living laboratory of contemporary creativity.”
“We have been confidently supporting the MAD Murate Art District for more than a decade, a space that Fondazione CR Firenze has accompanied since its origins for its commitment to the promotion of contemporary art, participatory practices and international residencies,” says Barbara Tosti, head of the Art, Activities and Cultural Heritage Sector of Fondazione CR Firenze. “Evidence of this is also our recent support for the creation of the volume celebrating the center’s 10 years of activity, concrete evidence of a shared and evolving path.”
