Notre-Dame, drunks enter to steal stones from restoration site but are stopped by security

In Paris, two men were caught while intoxicated stealing stones from the Notre-Dame Cathedral restoration site, where they had sneaked in. Surprising them on the evening of Tuesday 17 (but the news was made public yesterday) were officers from the cathedral’s security service, who then alerted the police. The two men, despite being drunk, still managed to scale the three-meter palisade surrounding the construction site and enter the worship building to grab the ancient stones, probably with the aim of reselling them.

The two men, who took advantage of the closure of the construction site due to the coronavirus emergency, are now in custody and will have to defend themselves in court.
