After three years of excavation, the oldest clay tablet on which verses from the Odyssey are read has been found in Greece.

After three years of excavations, carried out by the Greek Archaeological Service in cooperation with the German Institute of Archaeology, a clay tablet dating from before the third century AD has been found near the remains of the Temple of Zeus in Olympia.

The extraordinary discovery consists of the inscription on the tablet: thirteen verses from the Odyssey that narrate the moment when Odysseus returns to his Ithaca.

It is reportedly the oldest clay tablet on which the Homeric text is read.
