Paris: another Banksy work stolen, at Centre Pompidou

On the night of September 2 to 3, another Banksy work was stolen in Paris, the second in a year.

It is a mural located outside the Centre Pompidou, painted on a panel hanging more than three meters high. The work depicts a mouse, Banksy’s image-symbol, covered by a scarf and with a box cutter between its paws. Made in 2018, Banksy says on Instagram that the graffiti is a tribute to the student uprising that took place in the French capital in May 1968.

Raising the alarm was the Centre Pompidou itself, however, which points out that that work does not belong to it, given its street art nature, so it could only press charges for damaging the street sign.

Banksy’s other work stolen this year (last January) was an image of a sad girl standing on the door of an emergency exit at the Bataclan that the artist created as a tribute to the venue’s victims during the Nov. 13, 2015 attacks.
