Opens the 62nd edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, a showcase of excellence in quality, innovation, and creativity in the furniture sector, a must-see event with a rich program of events. Seven events will take place simultaneously in the spaces of Rho Fiera from Tuesday, April 16 to Sunday, April 21. The main objective of the 62nd edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano is to generate enduring value for exhibitors, offer high-quality experiences and cultural interactions for all participants. With an exhibition area of 174,457 square meters, the fair welcomes more than 1,950 exhibitors from 35 countries and sees the participation of 185 brands including new presences and returns. The event places special focus on innovative kitchen and bathroom design and celebrates 25 years of SaloneSatellite.

Confirming the effectiveness and success of the 2023 edition, the Salone introduces the innovative use of neuroscience and adopts an individual-centered philosophy to renew the organization of exhibitors within the exhibition area, creating thematic groups and generating homogeneous focal points of meaning, thus improving the value of the experience for visitors. Finally, the event introduces new cultural offerings spread throughout the halls, with meaningful installations and meetings, strengthening its commitment to stimulate creativity and reflection on future issues.

This year, the fair aims to highlight products that fully embody environmental responsibility and regeneration processes, quality craftsmanship, technological innovation and a deep design culture also inspired by Japan. In addition, the importance of outdoor spaces is confirmed and a growing interaction with the world of fashion is noted. The Salone thus becomes a crucial meeting point for the design world, where professionals and enthusiasts can directly experience the fruits of a year’s work, research and innovation. New layers of ideas, meanings, forms and functions emerge, some still in the embryonic stage, but capable of outlining the living of the future. This panorama of proposals responds not only to immediate needs but also to the deepest dreams of living, showing the limitations and intrinsic beauty of the solutions offered. There is then an explosion of design and expressive languages. The current edition aims to stand out for its messages and visions that range from environmental and social responsibility to the enhancement of traditional craftsmanship, skillfully integrated with digital technologies. Authenticity and design culture is celebrated through re-edited objects, employing new construction techniques and sustainable materials, as well as evoking design influences laden with meaning, such as those from Japan. The importance of outdoor spaces is also reiterated and the influence of fashion in this area is explored.

For this edition, the Salon also chose to collaborate with David Lynch, the celebrated filmmaker known for his unique approach to the unconscious and metaphysical, to explore how the indoor environment influences and shapes the experience of those who live in it. The result is Interiors by David Lynch. A Thinking Room, an installation curated by Antonio Monda that transforms the exhibition space into a profound immersive experience. The installation is located in Halls 5 and 7, where Lynch has created two rooms that act almost as a stage for the lone visitor. In the center of each room emerges a wooden chair, equipped with tools for writing, drawing and painting, and connected to the ceiling by seven cylinders. Around it, niches adorned with images that evoke feelings of mystery and reflection, a mirror, a clock, and an undulating curtain that surrounds the walls creating a visual rhythm that invites meditation. The floor is reminiscent of the wave-like movement of the sea, while the curved, golden ceiling, illuminated by strands of light that connect to the chair, invites a state of reflection and open-mindedness. The dominant blue, gold and play of light create an atmosphere of calm and silence, a marked contrast to the outside environment of the Salon, full of stimulation and conversation. Lynch wants to invite visitors to experience these rooms for themselves, suggesting how isolation can amplify the ability to empty oneself of daily worries and open oneself to new ideas and perceptions. In this way, A Thinking Room not only offers a moment of pause and reflection, but also prepares visitors to immerse themselves in the many innovations and projects of the Salone del Mobile.

In the spirit of an ever-increasing openness to the exchange and circulation of ideas, culture and creativity, and to emphasize how strong and valuable the strong link with the city of Milan is, the collaboration with the Fondazione Teatro alla Scala is confirmed for the fourth year. A union born from the desire to combine common values, and which has the dual objective of promoting and enhancing the talent of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra and, at the same time, o!riving the design community the opportunity to live a unique experience. This year, conducted by Riccardo Chailly and sung by tenor Juan Diego Flórez, the program features a selection of Overtures, Intermezzos and arias from the most celebrated masterpieces of the opera masters: from the Sinfonia of Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco to the Overture of Vincenzo Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi to Giacomo Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, among others.

“In the past few months,” said Maria Porro, president of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, “we have been telling the story of the Salone del Mobile in Milan, meeting with journalists, architects and interior designers from all continents. The Salone 2024 has taken shape, thanks to the work of more than 1,950 exhibitors, engaged for more than twenty days in the preparations of the wonderful worlds that await us in the Pavilions of the 62nd edition of the Event. An edition that is increasingly sustainable, thanks to the sharing of new Green Guidelines for set-ups, a further step forward in the framework of the Event’s ISO20121-certified Sustainability Policy. But also an Exhibition that is increasingly open to experimentation. From neuroscience, applied to the redesign of layouts and visitor routes to the Cultural Program 2024, capable of triggering synesthesia and short circuits open to all. This challenge has been taken up by those who renew their trust in the Salone every year, but also by 185 new entries among brands that have chosen for the first time (or again) to take part in the Event. 2024 is also the birthday of SaloneSatellite, an extraordinary ”factory“ of connections for more than 14,000 young international talents: 25 years that we will celebrate with a major exhibition in Triennale Milano - Universo Satellite. And with a new special initiative dedicated to Italian and foreign students: the possibility to visit the Salone - from Friday to Sunday - with a ticket at the special tari!a of 15 euros. It is an invitation to immerse themselves in the experience of the Exhibition, to explore and connect with the culture of design and product. But also a response to the needs of an industry increasingly in search of a new professional biodiversity that accelerates evolution. That momentum toward the future that we also hope to give with the new Special Projects 2024, starting from the intimate space of David Lynch’s ”Thinking Rooms“ to the many opportunities for listening and direct encounters, o!erated by Talks and Round Tables but also in the Design Kiosk, our new design newsstand in Piazza della Scala. Where the verb design is already face-to-face, thanks to a series of conversations with the city. Who will we see at the Kiosk? Stefano Boeri, Cino Zucchi, Parasite 2.0, Luca Nichetto... But above all, I hope, a new generation of builders of the future.”
