On Sky art a marathon dedicated to photography on the occasion of World Day

Sky Arte celebrates World Photography Day with a series of biographical documentaries dedicated to the greats of photography, from Robert Frank to Annie Leibovitz, via Helmut Newton, Steve McCurry and Vivian Maier.

To celebrate World Photography Day, which falls on Aug. 19, Sky Arte is offering a series of biographical documentaries dedicated to the greats of photography.

On Aug. 19 at 9:15 p.m. it will air a portrait of Robert Frank in the documentary Don’t Blink; through his works Robert Frank revolutionized the canons of photography and independent filmmaking, portraying the true essence of the United States and documenting the Beat Generation and the career of the Rolling Stones, and exploring family ties and friendship, memory and loss. Robert Frank, who has rarely granted himself interviews, agrees here to be caught on camera by Laura Israel, his trusted collaborator, photographer, editor and documentary filmmaker, and presents himself with sincerity, showing his innermost and most hidden self. A film that chronicles him as an artist and as a man, from his cinematic experiments and photographic projects to his private life, friendships and the dramatic loss of his children.

The August 19 schedule will also feature a marathon of themed content, such as the three seasons of Photographers and many other documentaries on the lives and works of some of the greatest artists of the lens, such as George Zimbel, Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newton, Steve McCurry, and Vivian Maier.

Instead, on Friday, August 26 at 9:15 p.m., Objective Annie Leibovitz - Life through a lens will air, in which friends, colleagues and some of the subjects captured with her lens, such as Patti Smith, Mikhail Baryshnikov, the Rolling Stones and Whoopi Goldberg, talk about Leibovitz and her career, from photos in the trenches in Vietnam to the covers of major magazines.
