Mimmo Jodice on display at Udine Castle with 140 photographs

The Parliament Hall of Udine Castle hosts the photography exhibition "Mimmo Jodice. The Enigma of Light": 140 photographs made between 1964 and 2015 and divided by themes, including famous works and shots never exhibited before.

The Parliament Hall of Udine Castle is hosting until Nov. 4, 2025, the photographic exhibition Mimmo Jodice. The Enigma of Light, curated by Civic Museums of Udine with Silvia Bianco, Roberto Koch and Alessandra Mauro, in collaboration with Mimmo, Angela and Barbara Iodice, and Studio Jodice.

The exhibition aims to celebrate the work of one of the greatest exponents of contemporary Italian photography through 140 photographs made between 1964 and 2015 and divided by themes, including famous works and shots never exhibited before. A dialogue between visionary images and cruder representations, where the dreamlike character of his visual poetics and his ability to reveal reality through a deeply personal perspective emerge.

The exhibition itinerary accompanies the visitor along the milestones of the artist’s career: from visual experimentation to the social issues related to Naples in the 1970s, from the evocative silence of human landscapes to the immersion in nature, to the confrontation between vision and reality. His photographs investigate the power of artistic language, social denunciation, and the tension between memory and contemporaneity.

An eclectic artist, Jodice took his first steps in the art world as a self-taught artist, initially devoting himself to drawing and painting, before finding in photography the most congenial means of expression. If at first his gaze lingers on a descriptive reality, over time his photography evolves, becoming a creative language that reflects on time, light and the very act of seeing.

From the beginning of his career, Jodice has fought for the recognition of photography as an autonomous art form. Black and white, a recurring stylistic feature, is considered by him to be the most authentic medium for restoring emotions and visions. Central to his creative process is the darkroom, the place where the artist translates sensations into images, experimenting with personal and innovative printing techniques.

The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Mondays.
