Jacopo Tissi étoile of the Bolshoi: he is the first Italian dancer to achieve it

Jacopo Tissi is the first Italian dancer in history to be named étoile of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. A great pride for the dance world.

Another pride for Italian dance that also excels abroad: in fact, the news that Jacopo Tissi has become étoile of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow is from these days. A prestigious recognition for the dancer who graduated from La Scala Theater in Milan and then flew to Russia where he was admitted to the famous temple of dance, already achieving a record. In fact, he is the first Italian dancer in history to enter the Bolshoi’s corps de ballet. After playing the Prince in Jurij Grigorovich’s Nutcracker ballet on Dec. 31, director Makhhar Vaziev elevated him to étoile.

Already referred to as heir to Roberto Bolle, whom he is inspired by and physically compared to, Jacopo Tissi is originally from Landriano, in the province of Pavia, where he was born in 1995; he graduated in 2014 from Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he entered when he was only 11 years old, and over the next two years he danced first at the Vienna State Ballet directed by Manuel Legris, then returned to La Scala as an adjunct soloist under Makhhar Vaziev, and Vladimir Derevianko and Olga Chenchikova as repeaters. Among his most prestigious roles was opposite Svetlana Zakharova in The Sleeping Beauty.

He then joined the Bolshoi corps de ballet in 2017, performing many repertory roles and continuing his career with passion and great dedication. In 2019 he was a guest dancer at the Royal Ballet in London with Romeo and Juliet, opposite Marianela Núñez.

His love for dance began at an early age when he was already watching Swan Lake on television at the age of five. Now his great passion and sacrifices have rewarded him, making him one of the most promising dancers internationally. “Good luck helps,” he admitted, “but it’s not enough. You have to be good at grasping opportunities and there remains the materiality of continuous effort.”

“It is a great happiness and honor for me to receive this nomination,” he wrote on his Facebook profile. “My thoughts and gratitude go out to all those people who have supported me and whom I have met during my journey: my family, teachers, theater, friends and people who have been close to me forever. A new chapter begins.”
