At Mudec the rainbow installation that gets shaped by visitors

At Mudec in Milan, Norma Jeane's #OneLove installation: a plasticine parallelepiped evoking the rainbow flag that is continually being shaped by visitors.

Mudec in Milan presents, in the Khaled Al-Asaad Space of Cultures, from November 17, 2022 to March 12, 2023, the installation #OneLove by artist Norma Jeane, curated by Katya Inozemtseva, and created by the collaboration between the Area Museum of Cultures, Intercultural Projects, Art in Public Space, 24 ORE Culture-Group, and the support of Deloitte Foundation.

It is a plasticine parallelepiped intended to evoke the rainbow flag. However, it hides within it ablack and white intersection, in celebration of the complexity of being human. It is acollective work in progress that changes in time and space throughcontinuous interaction with the public, who can interact with it by shaping and reshaping the material of which it is composed, throughout the duration of the installation.

In the #OneLove project Norma Jeane allows the symbol to transform into a territory of play and interaction. Plasticine, a malleable material, opposes the idea of prudishness toward the symbol: each visitor is free to sculpt anything, mix colors, knowing that anyone later can destroy or reshape what has been made. The symbol thus becomes a platform for physical interaction: it diminishes its representative and even political power, returning to the person, his or her body, the individual gesture, recoding all communication.

"#OneLove is a playground. Just like in a sandbox you can do everything and the opposite of everything without getting too hurt. Yes, because dealing with symbols can be dangerous. When faced with an emblem or flag, one must show caution (if not reverence)," explains artist Norma Jeane."#OneLove is a rainbow of colors that contains the black and white of stark choices. Either this way or that way. Or everywhere. Each color takes shape and meaning in the hands and eyes of those who play with it and in mixing more and more with other colors, endlessly multiplying the hues. Make and unmake, nothing is final."
