Rome, unveiled mural dedicated to Alberto Sordi and Marchese del Grillo

In Rome, a large mural dedicated to Alberto Sordi and the Marchese del Grillo was unveiled in the Garbatella neighborhood in an initiative sponsored by the Roma soccer team.

“Io so’ io, e voi nun siete un cazzo”: who does not remember the very famous ... maxim of the Marquis del Grillo? Now the face of the marquis who loved to make fun of the entire papal court in Napoleonic Rome, played by Alberto Sordi in Mario Monicelli’s unforgettable 1981 film Il marchese del Grillo (The Marquis of Grillo ), stands out on a palace in Garbatella, on the outskirts of Rome’s historic center. It is a work by street artist Lucamaleonte: the initiative is by the AS Roma soccer team, which created it under the patronage of Regione Lazio and in collaboration with Ater, Fondazione Museo Alberto Sordi, Associazione Alberto Sordi, Fondazione Alberto Sordi, Comitato di quartiere, Associazione Itaca and Roma Club Garbatella on anniversary number 101 of Alberto Sordi’s birth.

The activity is part of the broader framework of projects that the soccer team and its foundation, Roma Cares, have launched for the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Roma Capitale: initiatives that have, moreover, already gone through street art, with murals dedicated to several other important personalities of Rome. “We are therefore proud of this work, carried out together with the Region and ATER,” said Stefano Scalera, external affairs director of AS Roma. “Roma is committed on and off the field, with Roma Cares, to stay close to all citizens. And to Roma fans first and foremost. With the Region, ATER and the City Council we will continue to launch initiatives to redevelop our squares, through more murals. Because our city is also our strength.”

The work decorates a building at number 2 Via Rocco da Cesinale, near 34 Via Fausto Vettor, where Sordi lived as a child. The Garbatella is a neighborhood very close to Alberto Sordi: not only did he live there, but he also shot his first film there, Mamma mia che impressione! In short, a sort of return to his roots for the actor with an image depicting him in one of his classic sly poses, as the cheeky marquis of the early 19th century.
