With its official lighting, Valerio Berruti’s large light installation Not Enough Siren Song was inaugurated, destined to remain permanently on the north quay of Cervia’s canal port, Milano Marittima side. It was the artist himself who lit it for the first time. The installation is the latest chapter of Mare d’Arte Festival 2025, conceived by Gianluca Orazi and realized in collaboration with Sky Arte, the Municipality of Cervia, the Emilia-Romagna Region and APT Servizi Emilia Romagna.
The sculpture depicts a six-meter-high mermaid-child, entirely surrounded by water. By day, the patinated bronze profile shines silhouetted against the sea at the point where it meets the harbor; by night, lighting makes it emerge from the waters like a living creature.
The work encapsulates the values that inspire the Mare d’Arte Festival: the mermaid as an emblem of the sea and the little girl as a symbol of hope and the future, with the intention of conveying an idea of hospitality capable not only of welcoming but also of transformation.
The lighting is the result of a special project designed by Hera Luce, which together with Hera Group supports the initiative. It is a dynamic lighting system, capable of modulating color and intensity to recreate, through a play of light, the movement and colors of the waves, thus telling the story of the constantly changing seascape. The concept, jointly developed by Hera Luce and the sculptor, aims to prolong the life of the work even at night.
