Artists dialogue with the territory at the Biennale Bregaglia 2020

From July 5 to September 27, 2020, the Biennale Bregaglia 2020 is held. Site-specific works to engage with the territory and its history.

From July 5 to September 27, 2020, the 2020 edition of the Bregaglia Biennial takes place near Promontogno, in the center of Val Bregaglia, in the area of the Nossa Dona church and the Lan Müraia area.

The involved artists (Selina Baumann, Nino Baumgartner, Alex Dorici, Sonja Feldmeier, Asi Föcker, Zilla Leutenegger, Noha Mokhtar & Lucas Uhlmann, Patrick Rohner, Roman Signer, Not Vital, Anita Zumbühl) from the four Swiss language regions will intervene with site-specific works in this ancient passage way and archaeological site. They will confront the characteristics of the area and its history through works inspired by the essential theme of humanity and its reflection in history, nature, landscape, science and language, creating a multi-layered dialogue. The artists’ works will not impose themselves on the architecture and landscape, but will allow the character and typicality of the places to emerge and stand out, without permanently altering them.

The Biennial is made possible thanks to the support of the Municipality of Bregaglia, which will also support the future 2022 and 2024 editions even more substantially through a performance contract. In addition, the project is also made possible thanks to numerous funds from private individuals.

For the 2020 edition of the Biennale, a collaboration with the Grisons art review Art Safiental is underway. With the work die Natur kennt keine Katastrophen (“nature knows no catastrophe”), artist Patrick Rohner aims to create a connection between the South and the North in both locations.

A rich program of collatteral events and guided tours is planned during the Biennial. For more information: https://biennale-bregaglia.ch/it/programma/.

The Bregaglia 2020 Biennial is curated by Luciano Frasciati, with Francine Bernasconi and Sarah Wiesendanger, and can be visited daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
