Banks unveil their historic buildings--digitally

The 2020 edition of 'Invitation to the Palace,' the event by which Italian banks open their historic locations to the public, will be held digitally.

Invitation to the Palace, the event that every year in October opens the historic headquarters of Italian banks and banking foundations to the public with special tours of their collections, is back again this year. This year, however, the 19th edition of Invito a Palazzo will be different from the others because it will be... all digital. Due to the continuing coronavirus emergency, in fact, theABI - Associazione Bancaria Italiana, organizer of the event together with Acri - Association of Foundations and Savings Banks, thought it prudent to avoid gatherings and therefore thought of creating a special online edition.

Thus, from October 3 to 10, the dedicated website and the Muvir.eu platform, the digital museum of banks in Italy, will host live streaming events, videos and virtual tours, and various other content that will be broadcast and shared on the portals of banks, foundations and the Bank of Italy. It will thus be possible to access the extraordinary artistic and architectural heritages, furnishings and works of art from all eras, guarded and protected by the Banks operating in Italy and by the Foundations in their locations, simply by browsing the websites of the banks and foundations, the event website, the Muvir website and the Bank of Italy website. Concerts, meetings with curators and artists, and activities dedicated to young children can also be added to this content. Where the conditions are right, and of course with compliance with security and spacing measures, live openings are also not excluded.

“Invitation to the Palace 2020 is strengthened and renewed by meeting the organizational needs dictated by the still ongoing emergency,” said Antonio Patuelli, president of ABI. “The event will be held mainly in digital form through the promotion of audio-video and multimedia content shared with the general public on digital channels, thus allowing visitors to have a new and engaging experience to approach knowledge from different points of view. On Saturday, October 3, as usual, it will be possible to visit in compliance with measures to contain all risks some historical and modern branches of Banks and Foundations of Banking Origin, art collections, temporary exhibitions, historical archives and much more.”

“Not even the pandemic has stopped Invitation to the Palace,” Acri President Francesco Profumo said. “This traditional fall event in which the historic buildings of Banks and Foundations open their doors for communities to admire the art treasures they hold. This year’s visits will be mostly virtual, but that doesn’t make them any less interesting for the public who attend. Because even, and perhaps especially, in these times of uncertainty we need to rediscover the beauty of the historical and artistic heritage of our territories, which constitutes an irreplaceable portion of our identity. With the hope of being able to return to admire them live as soon as possible. This is why the Foundations of Banking Origin and the Savings Banks associated in Acri participate, as always, in large numbers in this event.”

Invitation to the Palace is held under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and has the patronage of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism.
