BRAFA 2022: dates and spaces change. Brussels Expo will be the new venue

BRAFA Art Fair will be held from Sunday, June 19 to Sunday, June 26, 2022 in the Brussels Expo spaces.

Planned for January 2022 but postponed due to the pandemic, BRAFA Art Fair will be held from Sunday, June 19 to Sunday, June 26, 2022 in the Brussels Expo spaces on the Heysel plateau north of the Belgian capital. This was announced by theFoire des Antiquaires de Belgique Association, announcing the new dates and spaces for the 67th edition of BRAFA.

“Being able to approach works of art within attractive, well-appointed spaces is one of the great advantages of an event like BRAFA,” explains Harold t’Kint de Roodenbeke, president of the antiques association that has organized BRAFA for more than 67 years. “This very emergency has taught us how valuable and irreplaceable it is to safely bring together the main market players: exhibitors, collectors and art lovers. We felt it was essential to identify a date in the 2022 event calendar anyway. We believe that the month of June, far from the pandemic upsurge of winter, may be the most appropriate month to offer the BRAFA experience in optimal conditions and allow visitors to take part in the cultural events with which the programming will be rich not only in Brussels but throughout Belgium.”

After a first edition in 1956 and eleven years inside the Galerie Louise, the event was held for more than thirty-five editions in the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Finally for almost twenty years in the spaces of the Tour & Taxis industrial building. As of 2022, there will be a change of venue again, and the gallerists of the 2022 edition of BRAFA will find space within the Brussels Expo.

Fairly central to Brussels, with plenty of access and parking options, Brussel Expo is popular with Belgians as well as a venue for many international events. Created in 1958 for the first 1958 Brussel International Exposition organized after World War II, the Expo inherits for the infrastructure of the pavilions the style of the 1935 World’s Fair as well as one of the most significant figures in the Belgian capital’s architecture, namely Art Deco.

“The Nextensa group, owner and operator of the Tour & Taxis, had already asked us to identify a new location, in view of a massive redevelopment project of this area to make it an even more sustainable district,” explains Beatrix Bourdon Managing Director BRAFA. “Faced with the change in the dates of the event, we sought a venue spacious enough to safely accommodate exhibitors and visitors. Hence the choice of the Brussels Expo: a state-of-the-art exhibition environment suitable for an international event such as BRAFA, which requires between 12,000 and 18,000 square meters, as well as the ability to ensure maximum security for the artworks and healthy enjoyment.”
