Cremona wants to become capital of contemporary art: first Art Week coming soon

Cremona aspires to become one of the capitals of contemporary art: in fact, from May 27 to June 4, the first edition of Cremona Contemporanea Art Week will be held. Already announced are the 21 artists, including big names such as Maurizio Cattelan.

Cremona wants to become one of the Italian capitals ofcontemporary art. Indeed, it takes on interesting contours the initiative that the Culture Department of the City of Cremona is about to launch: it is Cremona Contemporanea Art Week, a new annual event that sees contemporary art in dialogue with the rich artistic and cultural heritage of the city of Cremona. The first edition of this event will be held from May 27 to June 4, 2023.

Curating the Cremona Art Week will be Rossella Farinotti, art critic, curator and journalist, as well as executive director of the Giò Pomodoro Archive and professor of economics and management of cultural and performing arts at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Farinotti selected came contemporary artists active on the international scene, different in training and generation but chosen because of their impact and in dialogue with the chosen places. A mix of young and established artists, big names and emerging talents. The shortlist is composed of Alessandro Agudio, Andrea Bocca, Gianni Caravaggio, Linda Carrara, Maurizio Cattelan, Nicole Colombo, Ettore Favini, Silvia Giambrone, Christian Holstad, Invernomuto, Francesco Joao, Beatrice Marchi, Silvia Mariotti, Oliver Mosset, Giovanni Ozzola, Alice Ronchi, Andreia Santana, Adelisa Selimbasic, Valdrin Thaqi, The Cool Couple and Luca Trevisani. They are the artists called to immerse themselves in the scenarios dense with history and culture that dot Cremona and its surroundings.

This is certainly an interesting experiment since usually “Art Weeks” are held in large cities, and on the sidelines of events such as fairs and exhibitions. Now, instead, a selection of important artists arrives in the province and in dialogue with the cultural heritage of a city rich in history: an appointment, therefore, to be followed closely.
