Discovering legends, mysteries and ghosts of Trieste: guided tours...chilling

Trieste is one of Europe's cities of the occult, full of mysteries, legends and ghosts. PromoTurismoFVG organizes special guided tours to discover the most mysterious Trieste.

From an idea of Lisa Deiuri, PromoTurismoFVG ambassador and creator of the Trieste arcana project, PromoTurismoFVG is organizing special guided tours to discover the most mysterious Trieste. These will be held on September 17 at 8:30 p.m. and October 1 and 8, also at 8:30 p.m.; they are scheduled to last about two hours, departing from Piazza Cavana, corner of Via Del Sale, and cost 10 euros per person (free with FVGcard). Reservations are required.

Passionate about Gothic literature, legends and magic, Lisa Deiuri will guide participants to discover the magical and mysterious side of the city, telling what lies behind the official story. Curiosities and mysteries hidden behind the gates of Old Town that reveal one of the many souls of Trieste, a city that never ceases to amaze. The latter has a long Masonic tradition and is closely linked to spiritualism, which flourished here: in fact, it is considered one of the European capitals of the occult, along with Prague and London and cities such as Venice and Turin.

From Old Town to the Castle of Miramare to the Castle of Duino there are haunted houses, apparitions and bizarre cults that make the Friulian capital dark and gloomy. Giving a few examples, in Baron Revoltella’s palace, now the Museum of Modern Art, the melancholy ghost ofArchduke Maximilian of Habsburg has been appearing since 1880, gazing at his portrait. Together with his wife Charlotte, it appears that Maximilian himself roams the Park and inside Miramare Castle, where they both lived.

Even in the Swabian Museum and Joyce Museum, once a women’s prison, a figure wrapped in a black palandrana seems to roam the corridors. And again, the Rotonda Pancera, a neoclassical-style building and once a Masonic temple, is the scene of mysterious episodes: the restless spirits of Freemasons still dwell in its basements. A White Lady, on the other hand, has been appearing for a couple of centuries and on full moon nights in Piazzetta Barbacan and in the alleys leading from Riccardo’s Arch to San Giusto.

Participating in the guided tour The Legends and Mysteries of the Old City will give you the opportunity to learn about all these stories and many others, which fascinate and put ... a little thrill to the walk in the city. Strictly at night.
