Today, Feb. 18, Florence celebrates the Electress Palatine for an entire day. Through a living history activity there will be a dialogue with her and free access to the Florentine Civic Museums and the Medici Riccardi Palace.

On the occasion of the anniversary of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici’s death, today Feb. 18 in the Sala dei Gigli in Palazzo Vecchio the public will have the chance to “meet” the last descendant of the Medici Grand Ducal branch, better known as theElectress Palatina. A day to “meet live” the Electress Palatina (starting at 11 a.m.) and visit the Florentine Civic Museums and Medici Riccardi Palace for free.

The Florentine Civic Museums and MUS.E are offering a special remembrance of this great female figure, whose choices were decisive in the history of her heritage and the entire city of Florence. In addition to free access to the Florentine Civic Museums and the Medici Riccardi Palace, a living history activity will be proposed in which the public can dialogue with the Electress herself to learn about and rediscover the peculiar character of this illustrious Medici and delve into the historical contingencies that led her to conceive and carry out the Family Pact, a true legal act of guardianship stipulated with Francis Stephen of Lorraine, thanks to which the last heir of the dynasty binds to the State, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, the entire complex of assets that were part of the Medici collections: “...Galleries, Paintings, Statues, Libraries, Gioje and other precious things [...] on the express condition that of that is for the ornament of the State, for the utility of the Public and to attract the curiosity of foreigners, and nothing of it shall be transported and lifted out of the Capital and State of the Grand Duchy.”

Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici will be impersonated by Giaele Monaci. The introduction to her figure and historical context will be by Andrea Verga.
