Guided tours at high altitude to admire the rose window and friezes of San Francesco del Prato

From Sept. 14 to Nov. 3, 2019, the church of San Francesco del Prato in Parma is offering guided tours at altitude to admire its rose window and friezes.

From September 14 to November 3, 2019, guided tours will be organized on weekends at high altitude on the façade of San Francesco del Prato, in the historic center of Parma, in order to admire the rose window created by Alberto da Verona in 1462 and the friezes that surround it.

The visits will include a propaedeutic part, dedicated to the history of the church, and a “hands-on” part during which visitors will be able to take a closer look, at an altitude of about twenty meters, at the large sixteen-beam rose window and the decoration of the polychrome panels, as well as enjoy a beautiful view of the historic center.

In total, the visit will last one hour and there will be several shifts, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; however, it will be necessary to make a donation online at www.sanfrancescodelprato.it, selecting the option “visit to the rose window.” The organization will send the donor an email with instructions to follow to book their visit online.

Aspecial opening is planned forNovember 1, 2019.

After an initial phase of restoration, the church of San Francesco del Prato is offering this opportunity, and at the end of next year, in conjunction with Parma Italian Capital of Culture 2020, it will reach its final opening.
