In Florence, children learn English in the city's museums through works of art. 20 appointments in city museums

Florence, two cycles of ten meetings each, reserved for children, to learn English in museums, in front of works of art. Here's how they work.

In Florence, it is possible to learn English by following special classes held in civic museums: after the success of the first experiment that started last spring, the experience of the English course in museums is repeated for the 2018-2019 school year as well, with the aim of making the attendance of culture increasingly widespread and pervasive. Thus, the Musei Civici FIorentini and MUS.E, in collaboration with English Florence, are organizing two cycles of ten appointments each to “use” art as a source of English language learning.

The first cycle begins on Saturday, October 13 and ends on Saturday, December 22, 2018, and the venue will be Palazzo Vecchio: the lessons will be held in the halls of the Palazzo and will take their cue from the paintings, sculptures and works of art preserved within its walls (as well as its centuries-old history). The second cycle, on the other hand, will begin on Saturday, January 12, and will conclude on Saturday, March 16, 2019: the venue will be the Museo del Novecento and will also consist of ten appointments, each of which will start from the works preserved in the museum to engage participants in a novel learning of English that promises to be quite engaging. “Interdisciplinarity,” reads the presentation, “is the guideline of the proposal, offering the opportunity to associate English language learning with a unique experience that is both aesthetic and enjoyable. In fact, from a linguistic point of view, the courses will allow participants to express themselves, acquiring a basic vocabulary and the main grammatical forms, but also to improve their understanding and pronunciation of the language; while from a cultural point of view, children will have the opportunity to assimilate the lineaments of ancient and recent history and art in a participatory form, thanks to animated paths and workshops.”

The courses are reserved for children ages 6 to 10, divided into two groups: at 10 a.m. children ages 6 and 7, at 11:30 a.m. children ages 8 to 10. Each cycle costs 100 euros, 180 the two cycles. Reservation required (includes participation in one full cycle or two full cycles with payment of the respective fee, and no possibility of refund), at 055-2768224 or 055-2768558Following are all appointments:
