In the Doge's Chapel face-to-face with a masterpiece by Vincent van Gogh

From May 12 to September 10, 2023, in the Doge's Chapel, you will have the chance to be face to face with a famous painting by Vincent van Gogh: Landscape with Wheat Sheaves and Rising Moon from the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo.

After the experience tested in the summer of 2020, after the months of lockdown and social distancing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in which Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, in collaboration with Arthemisia and the Marmottan Monet Museum, created a face-to-face encounter with one of the Water Lilies by the father of Impressionism, this year the experience is repeated but involving another work.

From May 12 to September 10, 2023, in the Doge’s Chapel, you will have the chance to be face-to-face with a famous painting by Vincent van Gogh: Landscape with Wheat Sheaves and Rising Moon, made in July 1889 (it is thus one of his last paintings) and kept at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo.

This extraordinary landscape is real and of the soul at the same time, as Octave Mirbeau had well understood, speaking precisely of van Gogh: “He had not identified himself with nature, he had identified nature with himself; he had forced it to bend, to shape itself according to the forms of his own thought, to follow him in his surges, even to undergo his deformations.”

The exhibition Five Minutes with van Gogh is produced by Palazzo Ducale Fondazione per la Cultura, in collaboration with Arthemisia and the Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo, The Netherlands.
