The seemingly unstoppable trend of yoga in museums is raging, and it is extending to involve new people. In fact, on Tuesday, January 9, the first free yoga class curated by Luigi Sansone was held at the Capodimonte Museum in Naples, the first of many that will take place every Tuesday until June 26. "Yoga for Museums - Museums for Yoga " is the project conceived and implemented by the School of Integral Yoga, which has been carrying it out since 1986, in collaboration with the Polo Museale della Campania, the Capodimonte Museum and Real Bosco, and theDepartment of Culture and Tourism of the City of Naples.
As many as nine museums are involved in this project: the Pignatelli Museum, the Royal Palace, the Duca di Martina Museum, the Charterhouse and Museum of San Martino, Castel Sant’Elmo, Virgil’s Tomb and Park, the Charterhouse of San Giacomo on Capri, the ’Georges Vallet’ Archaeological Museum (Piano di Sorrento) and the Capodimonte Museum and Real Bosco.
“The idea of practicing Yoga in Museums,” the organizers are keen to point out, “stems from the conviction that the union of culture, beauty and soul-searching that will be created between museum spaces, works of art and the forms of yoga practice, will be able to foster the harmonious development of the human being, to the benefit of individuals and society as a whole. The experience of spending a different time in museums is also a way to contribute to the knowledge and support of artistic and cultural heritage.”
Is that the end of the story? No: those who participate in the yoga classes will be entitled to reduced museum tickets.
