Nearly 2 million passengers and 500 thousand kilos of CO2 saved in one month for Luca Font's street art train

In one month since its inauguration, the Luca Font-designed art train that runs through Brescia has recorded nearly two million passengers and 500,000 kg of CO2 saved.

1,700,000 passengers, for 11,000 rides and 500,000 kg of CO2 saved: these are the numbers of the month that saw the debut in Brescia of the art train signed by street artist Luca Font, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the Brescia metro. In fact, the first project of its kind in Italy was inaugurated on April 19, 2023: an entire train that, in the year of Bergamo Brescia Capital of Culture, becomes a metal canvas of art and travels along the metro tracks, like a multicolored work of art that crosses the Lombard city. From April 19 to date, nearly 2 million passengers have crossed the city, choosing a sustainable means such as the subway and enjoying, at the same time, the artistic incursion signed by one of the most successful Italian street artists abroad.

Patterns, colors, minimalist geometries: in the year that sees Bergamo Brescia Capital of Culture 2023, Brescia has been enriched with new initiatives aimed at redesigning in the sign of art the city’s profile. The protagonist of the artistic incursion dedicated to sustainable mobility is Luca Font, who for the tenth anniversary of the Brescia subway transformed the depot in via Magnolini into Connessioni (400 square meters of murals) an entire train in unprecedented canvas in motion, a convoy of traveling art that crosses the city.

Created in Luca Font’s unmistakable 400-square-meter style, Connessioni, curated by Emotitech, tells of imaginary cityscapes, but it is much more than a simple decoration: in fact, it represents a metaphor for travel on Brescia’s light rail, conveying the values of sustainability, dynamism and technology that characterize this means of transportation. Luca Font therefore invents an elegant iconic masking, to cut and shape the illustrative decoration that represents Brescia and its continuous mobility, through the dynamic and sinuous lines that describe the shape of an imaginary bird.

Thus, the extension of Connessioni starts from the Brescia subway depot: the carriages, also decorated with the replicated artwork, traverse the city, telling the profiles and glimpses of the Capital of Culture 2023.

Connessioni, with curatorship by Emotitech, is among the initiatives of Brescia Bergamo Capital of Culture 2023 and was created at the initiative of Brescia Mobility and thanks to BCC Brescia.
